Celestial Herald
The GW2 revenant build for open world is this one, and it is the easiest build on this whole list. One set of Celestial, two legends, and an upkeep skill you turn on and leave on. The source rates it 25 % difficulty and says it touches on immortality — which is the kind of claim we normally strip out, except that in this case you can read exactly where it comes from: stacked healing, stacked damage reduction, and permanent quickness for everyone standing near you.
Equipment
One set of Celestial across all fifteen slots. Celestial gives a share of every attribute, which is the right answer for a build whose damage is torment, whose healing scales off healing power, and whose quickness scales off concentration — three different stats doing three different jobs at once. Revenant wears heavy armour. Exotic Celestial is fine; ascended is a few percent.
Spear first, shortbow when you cannot be there. The spear is where the damage is and it has a memory: Abyssal Raze stacks Crushing Abyss for every target it strikes and the torment ramps with the stacks, so the other spear skills exist partly to bring it back sooner. The shortbow is the answer to a gap, a structure or an attack you should not be standing in — not a second damage profile. Torment on both, with Frailty on the spear and Corruption on the shortbow.
Weapon alternatives why these ones
The relic and both second sigils, with one honest warning attached to the relic.
Peppered Cured Meat Flatbread and Tuning Icicle, both taken from GuildJen’s version of this build. The food is a feast: one use serves everyone standing near you for five minutes, which is worth more in a meta event than on your own. The utility item converts what you already have: condition damage from 3% precision and 8% expertise.

Cheap, craftable, always available — and chosen for celestial gear, not for this build in particular. These are our picks, not the source’s.
How the build works
Revenant does not have utility skills the way other professions do. It has legends — whole bars you swap between — and an energy pool that refills over time and is spent by everything. This build runs Mallyx for damage and Glint for boons, and the entire decision tree is: stay in Mallyx until the energy is gone, then go to Glint.
- Mallyx — the demon legend — torment and condition soak
- Embrace the Darkness — upkeep on, and leave it on
- Abyssal Raze — spear 5 — the stacking buff that ramps
- Out of energy — the only real timer in the build
- Glint — facets pulse boons to everyone nearby
- Consume — cash a facet in before swapping back
The upkeep skill is the build. Embrace the Darkness pulses torment to everything around you and drains energy for as long as it is on. The source says keeping it up is usually enough on its own to hold your quickness, which means you do not have to spend Glint’s energy maintaining facets and can put it into weapon skills instead. That is the whole optimisation, and it is one sentence long.
Skills
This bar is Mallyx, the demon legend. Empowering Misery heals more for every condition currently on you, which turns the usual problem into a resource. Pain Absorption grants resistance to you and nearby allies and pulls their conditions onto you — on this legend that is a trade you want. Banish Enchantment is damage, chill and boon removal. Call to Anguish is a leap that pulls foes to where you land, and the only gap closer here. Embrace the Darkness is the elite and the upkeep. Swap legend and all five change to Glint’s facets.
- Heal — Empowering Misery
- Utility — Pain Absorption
- Utility — Banish Enchantment
- Utility — Call to Anguish
- Elite — Embrace the Darkness

Traits
Corruption for the torment, Salvation for the healing, Herald for the boons. It is an unusual pairing — Salvation is the support line — and it is the reason the sustain claim in the source is not just marketing.
- Corruption — Acolyte of Torment · Pact of Pain · Fiendish Tenacity
- Salvation — Eluding Nullification · Resilient Spirit · Unyielding Devotion
- Herald — Elder's Respite · Shared Empowerment · Elevated Compassion
Where the sustain actually comes from
Fiendish Tenacity in Corruption, Resilient Spirit and Unyielding Devotion in Salvation, and Elevated Compassion in Herald all pull in the same direction, and Celestial’s healing power makes each of them worth more than it would be on a pure damage set. Stack that on heavy armour and the result is a build that is difficult to kill in open world rather than one that is merely tanky.
Shared Empowerment is what turns it outward: the boons you generate reach the people standing next to you, which is where the group quickness in meta events comes from. Unlike most builds on this list, that is not a side effect — the source names Quickness as the build’s group boon on the page itself.
Acolyte of Torment and Pact of Pain are the damage half, and both are torment-specific. This is a condition build wearing a hybrid stat set, not a power build with conditions attached.
Rotation
There is no rotation, there is a priority list, and the source publishes it as one. Keep Embrace the Darkness running in Mallyx. Keep enough facets running in Glint. Press spear 5 whenever it is available, then the other spear skills to bring it back sooner. Swap legend when the energy is gone.
The shortbow is there for the times you cannot be in melee — a champion with a large attack, a structure, something on the other side of a gap. It is not a second damage profile you rotate into.
Abyssal Raze is the one press with a memory. It stacks Crushing Abyss for each target it strikes, and the torment ramps with the stacks. Everything else on the spear exists partly to shorten its cooldown, which is why the source’s priority list starts with it rather than with the biggest single hit.
The honest verdict
Tier S for open world. Four questions decide it, and the answers come from this page:
- Holds a champion aloneyes
- Kills trash quicklypartly
- One gear set, no rotationyes
- Helps the people next to youyes

What it is good at, and what it is not:
Energy is the real cooldown, and it is the thing that catches people out: every skill and the upkeep all draw from one bar, so a badly spent Mallyx window leaves you in Glint with nothing to press. The damage is also slow to arrive — it is torment, it ramps with Crushing Abyss stacks, and trash dies before any of that matters. And the build has no burst at all, so anything with a short vulnerability window is not what it is for.
What you get back is the most forgiving build on this list by a distance. The source rates it 25 % difficulty, the priority list is four lines long, and the sustain is stacked from three trait lines at once on heavy armour. It also gives permanent quickness to everyone near you, which none of the other seven do as a designed feature.
It is the right answer for the Revenant, which until now had no open-world build on this site at all.
Build code
Paste this into an empty build template slot in-game. The traits, legends and skills on this page were decoded from this exact code and checked against the official Guild Wars 2 API. Note that a Revenant’s skill bar comes from its legends rather than from the skill palette in the code — we resolved the legends from the code’s profession block, not from the palette, which resolves to a different specialisation entirely.
[&DQkOLQwrNBXcEQAAKxIAANQRAAAGEgAAyhEAAAQBAAAGEisS1BEAAAAAAAA=] Questions
Is Revenant good for open world in GW2?
Yes, and this build is the reason. The Revenant swaps between two legends instead of picking utility skills, which sounds restrictive and in open world turns out to be the opposite: one legend carries damage, the other carries boons, and you always have both. This build adds heavy armour, Celestial stats and permanent quickness on top.
What is the best loadout for a Revenant in open world?
Mallyx and Glint, spear and shortbow, Celestial on every slot, Rune of the Trapper and Relic of the Cruel Overseer. Mallyx provides the torment damage and the condition soak; Glint pulses boons to you and to anyone nearby. The build code on this page is the exact loadout, decoded and checked against the API.
How does the Herald keep quickness up permanently?
Through Glint’s facets and Shared Empowerment. The source’s own rule is to keep at least six degeneration worth of facets running, and it notes that maintaining Embrace the Darkness in Mallyx is usually enough on its own — which frees Glint’s energy for weapon skills instead of upkeep.
What stats should a Herald use in open world?
Celestial on all fifteen slots. The build needs condition damage for torment, healing power for the sustain traits and concentration for the boon duration, and Celestial is the only prefix that gives all three. A pure condition set would hit slightly harder and lose both of the other jobs.
When do I swap legends?
When the energy bar is empty, and not before. Energy is the only real cooldown in the build: everything you press draws from it, including the upkeep. Before swapping out of Glint, activate the consume effects of the Facets of Strength, Darkness and Elements — that is where their value is cashed in.
Why is a support trait line on a damage build?
Because Celestial makes it pay. Salvation’s Resilient Spirit and Unyielding Devotion scale with healing power, and Celestial gives you healing power you would otherwise be wasting. Combined with Fiendish Tenacity in Corruption and Elevated Compassion in Herald, that is three trait lines all contributing to sustain, on a class already wearing heavy armour.
Which spear do I need for this build?
Any ascended or exotic Celestial spear — for the ascended Celestial set that is the Wupwup Impaler. One note in case you go looking in the official API: there is no weapon type called Spear there. Spears are still listed under Harpoon, which is what they were called when they were underwater-only. Same item, same weapon, older label.
About this build
The celestial Herald is a GW2 revenant build for open world PvE: Celestial gear on every slot, Rune of the Trapper, Relic of the Cruel Overseer, and the Corruption, Salvation and Herald trait lines, running the Legendary Demon Stance (Mallyx) and Legendary Dragon Stance (Glint) with spear and shortbow. Mallyx carries the damage through the Embrace the Darkness upkeep and the spear’s Abyssal Raze, which stacks Crushing Abyss and ramps torment over time; Glint pulses might, fury, swiftness, regeneration and protection to nearby allies through its facets, and Shared Empowerment passes the quickness on. Sustain is stacked across all three trait lines and amplified by Celestial’s healing power, on heavy armour. Energy rather than cooldowns is the limiting resource, and the whole priority list is four lines long — the source rates it 25 % difficulty, the easiest of its set.
Traits, legends and skills decoded from the in-game build template and verified against the official Guild Wars 2 API and /v2/legends; item, rune, sigil and relic identities read from /v2/items. Build based on GuildJen’s Celestial Herald open world build, last updated there 30 July 2026; GuildJen publishes no patch stamp. Hardstuck’s Booster Herald uses the same legend pairing with a different rune and relic. MetaBattle’s open-world Herald is a Viper build, not a Celestial one — the two should not be mixed.
