Power Berserker

The GW2 berserker build for open world is the one that does exactly what the name promises: two of the largest weapons in the game and a rage timer you keep pushing further out. Berserk mode is not a burst you spend here — it is a state you stay in, extended by every disable and every primal burst. Crowd control is your damage, your quickness and your healing, all at once.

Equipment

One set of Berserker across all fifteen slots — power, precision and ferocity, nothing defensive. Warrior wears heavy armour and has the second-largest health pool in the game, which is the reason this build can afford a full offensive set and still stand in the middle of things. Exotic Berserker is fine to start; ascended is a few percent and agony resistance you only need in fractals.

Armor · Rune of the Scholar 6
Trinkets · Berserker 6
Weapons · Hammer and Greatsword 2

Two sigils on each two-hander. The hammer takes Force and Impact, which adds damage against disabled foes — on a weapon whose whole job is disabling things, that sigil is live most of the time you are holding it. The greatsword takes Force and Energy, endurance on weapon swap, which on a build that swaps every rotation anyway is a free dodge you did not pay for.

Weapon alternatives why these ones

One relic and the two second sigils, each doing a specific job rather than adding a flat number.

Relic 1
Consumables · Food and utility 2

Avocado Smoothie and Mist-Infused Sharpening Stone, both taken from GuildJen’s version of this build. The food gives +80 power and +60 ferocity. The utility item converts what you already have: power from 3% precision and 6% ferocity.

Cheap, craftable, always available — and chosen for power gear, not for this build in particular. These are our picks, not the source’s.

How the build works

Most builds treat berserk mode as a burst window: press it, spend it, wait. This one treats it as a state. Five separate things on the bar extend the timer — Head Butt, Wild Blow, Sundering Leap, Blood Reckoning, and every primal burst through Smash Brawler — and while you are in it, Fatal Frenzy raises both power and condition damage and Bloody Roar adds strike damage on top. The goal is never to leave.

  • Head Butt — stun, adrenaline, and the timer starts
  • Berserk — F2 — power and condition damage go up
  • Rupturing Smash — primal burst, and Smash Brawler extends berserk
  • Backbreaker — hammer 5 — quickness from Aggressive Onslaught
  • Weapon swap — swiftness, might, adrenaline, conditions gone
  • Arc Divider — greatsword primal burst into the pile

Crowd control is not a defensive tool here, it is the damage rotation. Aggressive Onslaught hands you quickness whenever you disable an enemy, and the hammer disables constantly. Fierce Blow deals increased damage to a controlled foe, and Backbreaker recharges Fierce Blow when it knocks something down. So the hammer sequence is not a setup you get through before the real damage — it is where the quickness, the damage bonus and the second Fierce Blow all come from.

Skills

Four of the five are Rage skills, which is the skill type that feeds berserk. Blood Reckoning is the most important button on the bar and it is not really a heal: it heals you, recharges every primal burst, extends berserk, and for a while heals you for a share of your outgoing damage. Press it in the middle of a fight, not at the end of one. Head Butt stuns the target and you — the self-stun is the price of the adrenaline, and you pay it before the fight rather than during. Wild Blow and Sundering Leap are more disables that also extend the timer. “Shake It Off!” is the only non-rage slot, and it breaks stuns for you and anyone standing nearby.

Skill bar 5
  • Heal — Blood Reckoning
  • Utility — Wild Blow
  • Utility — Sundering Leap
  • Utility — "Shake It Off!"
  • Elite — Head Butt

Traits

Strength for the damage modifiers, Discipline for the weapon swap, Berserker for the timer. The gold line runs through the three picks in each.

Specialisations 3
  • Strength — Brave Stride · Forceful Greatsword · Aggressive Onslaught
  • Discipline — Warrior's Sprint · Brawler's Recovery · Burst Mastery
  • Berserker — Smash Brawler · Heat the Soul · Bloody Roar

Why the weapon swap is a damage button

The Discipline minors do more than the major picks. Versatile Rage gives adrenaline on swap, Fast Hands gives swiftness on swap, and Versatile Power gives might on swap and shortens burst recharge. Three boons and a resource for one key.

Then Warrior’s Sprint increases your strike damage while you have swiftness — and Fast Hands just handed you swiftness. Swapping weapons is therefore not a neutral transition between halves of the rotation; it is a damage buff you should be pressing on cooldown even when you are happy with the weapon in your hands. Brawler’s Recovery adds condition removal to the same press.

Heat the Soul is the one trait aimed outward: burst skills grant boons to nearby allies. That is where the group quickness in meta events comes from. It is a side effect of the rotation rather than a job, so treat it as a bonus and not a reason to bring this to a squad that needs a real boon provider.

Rotation

Three phases and one rule: the timer never runs out. Head Butt to open, hammer to control, greatsword to cash in, and Blood Reckoning in the middle to hand the primal bursts back.

If the pack is dead before you reach the greatsword, skip it and go find the next one — berserk is still running and Burst of Aggression gave you the speed. The rotation is a priority list, not a script.

Hundred Blades is the only press that punishes you for being early. It is a three-second channel that roots you, so it belongs after a knockdown and nowhere else. Everything else in the kit is short enough to fire while you are moving.

The honest verdict

A

Tier A for open world. Four questions decide it, and the answers come from this page:

  • One gear set, no rotationyes
  • Helps the people next to youpartly

Our judgement, not a measurement — 2026-09-13.

What it is good at, and what it is not:

It has nothing at range. Hammer and greatsword are both melee, and the greatsword’s Rush is a gap closer rather than an answer to something you cannot reach. It needs adrenaline before it starts, so the first few seconds of a fight are the weakest ones — which is exactly backwards from how open world usually goes. And the self-stun on Head Butt is real: press it at the wrong moment and you are standing still while something large winds up.

What you get back is the most forgiving power build in this set. Heavy armour, a large health pool, two healing sources that both scale with your own damage, permanent quickness generated by the thing you were going to press anyway, and a rotation that is a priority list rather than a sequence. It is the one on this list that survives being played badly.

Questions

Is Berserker good for open world in GW2?

Yes, and it is the most forgiving pick in this family of builds. Warrior has heavy armour and one of the largest health pools in the game, and this build adds two damage-driven healing sources on top. The rotation is a priority list rather than a sequence, so playing it imperfectly costs you damage rather than your life.

Spellbreaker or Berserker for a Warrior?

Berserker for open world damage, Spellbreaker for stripping boons off things that have them. Berserk mode raises power and condition damage for as long as you can keep extending it, and this build is built entirely around extending it. Spellbreaker trades that for defiance damage and boon removal, which matter more in structured content than in a field full of trash.

What stats should a Berserker use in open world?

Berserker on every slot. Power, precision and ferocity, with no defensive statline anywhere — heavy armour and the health pool are the defence, and the healing comes from Blood Reckoning and Relic of Zakiros rather than from gear. Exotic is enough to start.

Why is crowd control part of the damage rotation?

Three traits make it one. Aggressive Onslaught grants quickness when you disable an enemy. Fierce Blow deals increased damage against a controlled or defiant foe. Backbreaker recharges Fierce Blow when it knocks a foe down. Disabling something therefore buys you attack speed, a damage bonus and a free skill, which is why the hammer is not just a setup weapon.

How do I keep berserk mode up longer?

Every Rage skill extends it when it hits — Head Butt, Wild Blow and Sundering Leap — and Smash Brawler extends it again on every primal burst. Blood Reckoning extends it and hands all your primal bursts back at once, so it is the single largest extension available. Miss with a Rage skill and you get nothing, which is the one thing to be careful about.

Do I have to press the weapon swap even when I like the weapon I am holding?

Yes. The Discipline minors grant adrenaline, swiftness and might on swap and shorten burst recharge, Brawler’s Recovery removes conditions, and Warrior’s Sprint increases your strike damage while you have swiftness. The swap is a buff with a weapon change attached, not the other way round.

Does this build help a group in meta events?

A little, and not on purpose. Heat the Soul grants boons to nearby allies when a burst skill connects, which in practice means quickness for whoever is standing next to you. It is a by-product of the rotation. If a squad actually needs boons, bring a build whose job that is.

About this build

The power Berserker is a GW2 berserker build for open world PvE: full Berserker gear, Rune of the Scholar, Relic of Zakiros, and the Strength, Discipline and Berserker trait lines with hammer and greatsword. Its engine is berserk mode treated as a state rather than a burst — Head Butt, Wild Blow, Sundering Leap, Blood Reckoning and every primal burst through Smash Brawler all extend the timer, while Fatal Frenzy and Bloody Roar raise damage for as long as it runs. Crowd control is the damage rotation: Aggressive Onslaught turns disables into quickness, Fierce Blow hits harder against controlled foes, and Backbreaker recharges Fierce Blow. The weapon swap is a buff in its own right through the Discipline minors and Warrior’s Sprint. Sustain comes from Blood Reckoning and Relic of Zakiros, both tied to outgoing damage. It has no ranged option and a weak opening, and it is the most forgiving build of its set once it is running.

Traits and skills decoded from the in-game build template and verified against the official Guild Wars 2 API, which also supplies the icons; item, rune, sigil and relic identities read from /v2/items. Build based on GuildJen’s Power Berserker open world build, last updated there 30 July 2026; GuildJen publishes no patch stamp. MetaBattle and Snow Crows both list a power Berserker for instanced content with different gear and utilities — the two should not be mixed. Builds shift with every balance patch; last checked 13 September 2026. Guild Wars 2 and all associated names are the property of ArenaNet and NCSOFT.
