Power Vindicator

The GW2 vindicator build for open world spends its defence to do damage, which is a strange sentence until you look at the traits. Your dodge is replaced by an attack, dodging grants you a damage bonus afterwards, and a third trait pays you more damage for as long as your endurance is not full. Nothing about this build wants you to be safe, and it is the hardest of the two Revenant builds on this site by a wide margin.

Equipment

Berserker on the armour and both weapon sets, Dragon on the trinkets. That split is the source’s own and it is the only defensive concession the build makes: six slots of vitality against nine slots of pure offence. Revenant wears heavy armour, which is the other half of the answer. Exotic is enough to start.

Armor · Rune of the Dragonhunter 6
Trinkets · Dragon 6
Weapons · Greatsword and Sword/Sword 3

Two sets that do the same thing, which is the point. Greatsword and dual swords both provide mobility and burst, so instead of a ranged half and a melee half you have two melee halves with separate cooldowns. That is what lets the build chain combos across a weapon swap rather than waiting. Energy on both sets is not a defensive sigil here — endurance is a damage resource on this build.

Weapon alternatives why these ones

A relic and a sigil, both picked for the same reason: this build turns endurance into damage.

Relic · Evasion 1
Consumables · Food and utility 2

Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew and Mist-Infused Sharpening Stone, both taken from GuildJen’s version of this build. The food gives might on dodge and +40% endurance regeneration. The utility item converts what you already have: power from 3% precision and 6% ferocity.

Consumable alternatives our picks, not the source's

Cheap, craftable, always available — and chosen for power gear, not for this build in particular. These are our picks, not the source’s.

How the build works

Three traits make your dodge into an attack. Tenacious Ruin replaces the roll with a blow from above. Forerunner of Death makes that blow hit harder in a smaller area and raises your outgoing strike damage for a while afterwards. Leviathan Strength increases your damage while your endurance is not full. Read together: dodging is the opener, and a full endurance bar is wasted value.

  • Dodge — it is an attack, not an escape
  • Forerunner of Death — and now your strike damage is up
  • Spear of Archemorus — the single biggest hit on the bar
  • Scavenger Burst — boons and endurance back, per foe struck
  • Out of energy — swap legend — the only timer here
  • Vengeful Hammers — Dwarf, and they damage while you move

Vulnerability is the second multiplier. Expose Defenses applies it with your first attack entering combat and refreshes when you use an elite — which you do, constantly, because Spear of Archemorus is on a short leash. Targeted Destruction then increases your strike damage based on how many stacks are on the target, and Dance of Death converts applying it into Battle Scars, which is where most of the healing comes from.

Skills

This is the Legendary Alliance bar, Luxon side. Selfish Spirit heals and empowers you for each enemy struck, so it is another skill that rewards standing in the middle. Nomad’s Advance is a lunge that grants might per target. Scavenger Burst gives boons and endurance per foe struck — endurance being the thing you just spent. Reaver’s Rage breaks stun and grants stability per target. Spear of Archemorus is the elite and the single largest hit on the page. Press Alliance Tactics and all five swap to the defensive Kurzick half.

Skill bar 5
  • Heal — Selfish Spirit
  • Utility — Nomad's Advance
  • Utility — Scavenger Burst
  • Utility — Reaver's Rage
  • Elite — Spear of Archemorus
Skill alternatives the other half of the stance

Traits

Invocation for fury, Devastation for vulnerability, Vindicator for the dodge. Each line has a single idea running through it and they meet in the middle.

Specialisations 3
  • Invocation — Rising Tide · Incensed Response · Roiling Mists
  • Devastation — Unsuspecting Strikes · Notoriety · Dance of Death
  • Vindicator — Leviathan Strength · Angsiyan's Trust · Forerunner of Death

Why swapping legends is a damage button

Invoker’s Rage (a minor) grants fury when you invoke a legend. Ferocious Aggression increases all damage while you have fury. Roiling Mists increases your critical-hit chance while you have fury and converts a share of your outgoing critical damage into healing. Incensed Response grants might when you give yourself fury, and Notoriety turns that might into power.

So one press — the legend swap — produces fury, and fury produces damage, crit chance, healing and might, which produces more power. It is the same shape as the weapon-swap chain on the Berserker, and it is worth more here because the legend swap is something you were going to do anyway when the energy ran out.

The one trait that is purely defensive is Angsiyan’s Trust: it removes the energy cost from Energy Meld and makes it grant energy in combat instead. On a build limited by two resources, a skill that hands one of them back for free is not a small pick.

Rotation

The source publishes a priority list rather than a rotation, and we have kept it that way: dodge plus Spear of Archemorus, then Scavenger Burst or Vengeful Hammers when energy is high, then Inspiring Reinforcement or Reaver’s Rage if you need stability, then greatsword 5 and sword 4, then greatsword 2 and 3 or sword 2 and 5.

Swap legends when the energy is low. Swap weapons when the dodges and cooldowns are low. Those are two different triggers and the source states them separately — treating them as one is the most common way to end up stood in melee with nothing available.

The Dwarf legend is the brake. Vengeful Hammers damage while you move, Inspiring Reinforcement pulses stability, Soothing Stone heals and cleanses, and Rite of the Great Dwarf is heavy damage reduction for you and anyone nearby. It is not a second damage rotation and trying to use it as one is how this build dies.

The honest verdict

B

Tier B for open world. Four questions decide it, and the answers come from this page:

  • Holds a champion alonepartly
  • Kills trash quicklyyes
  • One gear set, no rotationno
  • Helps the people next to youno

Our judgement, not a measurement — 2026-09-13.

What it is good at, and what it is not:

It runs on two resources at once and you can empty either. Energy limits the legend skills, endurance limits the dodges, and the traits want both spent rather than saved — which leaves very little margin when something goes wrong. It is also the only build here whose defence is its offence by design: dodging is an attack, so the press you would normally use to get out of trouble is the one you already spent getting into it.

What you get back is the highest ceiling of the two Revenant builds on this site and a rhythm that nothing else here has — dodge, elite, cash in, swap. It has the strongest second-source position of the set as well: Snow Crows ranks a power Vindicator first on the search term, MetaBattle carries one, and Hardstuck lists a booster Vindicator under open world specifically.

If you want the Revenant that is hard to kill, take our celestial Herald instead. This is the one that kills things faster and asks more of you for it.

Build code

Paste this into an empty build template slot in-game. The traits, legends and skills on this page were decoded from this exact code and checked against the official Guild Wars 2 API. As with every Revenant build, the skill bar comes from the legends in the code’s profession block rather than from its skill palette — the palette here resolves to a different specialisation altogether.

Questions

Is Vindicator good in GW2 open world?

It is the highest-damage Revenant option and the least forgiving. Three traits turn your dodge into an attack and reward you for keeping your endurance low, which is excellent while things are going well and offers no way out when they are not. If you want a Revenant that survives its own mistakes, take a celestial Herald.

Why does dodging deal damage on this build?

Tenacious Ruin, a Vindicator minor, replaces the dodge roll with a downward strike. Forerunner of Death increases that strike’s damage in exchange for a smaller area and grants you increased outgoing strike damage afterwards. Leviathan Strength then increases your damage for as long as your endurance is not full. Dodging is an opener on this build, not an escape.

What is the best weapon for a Vindicator?

Greatsword, with dual swords as the second set. Both are melee and both provide mobility and burst, which is deliberate: two sets with the same job and separate cooldowns let you chain combos across the swap instead of waiting. There is no ranged option in this build.

Which legends does this build use?

Legendary Alliance and Legendary Dwarf. Alliance carries the damage — Spear of Archemorus, Scavenger Burst and the rest — and Dwarf is the brake, with Vengeful Hammers, Inspiring Reinforcement, Soothing Stone and Rite of the Great Dwarf. Both were read out of the build code’s profession block and checked against the API.

What stats should a Vindicator use in open world?

Berserker on armour and both weapon sets, Dragon on the trinkets. That is the source’s split: nine slots of pure offence against six that add vitality. Heavy armour does the rest. Exotic is enough to start.

When do I swap legends and when do I swap weapons?

They are two separate triggers. Swap legends when the energy bar is low; swap weapons when your dodges and weapon cooldowns are low. Treating them as one press is the quickest way to end up in melee with nothing available.

Vindicator or Herald for open world?

Herald if you want the easiest build on this site, permanent quickness and sustain stacked from three trait lines. Vindicator if you want more damage and a rhythm to play with, and you accept that both of your resources can run out at once. They are the two ends of the same profession.

About this build

The power Vindicator is a GW2 vindicator build for open world PvE: Berserker armour and weapons, Dragon trinkets, Rune of the Dragonhunter, Relic of Evasion, and the Invocation, Devastation and Vindicator trait lines, running the Legendary Alliance and Legendary Dwarf stances with greatsword and dual swords. Its mechanic is the dodge: Tenacious Ruin replaces it with an attack, Forerunner of Death increases that attack and grants a strike-damage bonus afterwards, and Leviathan Strength pays out while endurance is not full. Vulnerability is the second multiplier through Expose Defenses, Targeted Destruction and Dance of Death, which also supplies most of the healing. The legend swap generates fury, and fury feeds damage, critical-hit chance, healing and might through Ferocious Aggression, Roiling Mists, Incensed Response and Notoriety. It runs on energy and endurance at once and has no ranged option.

Traits, legends and skills decoded from the in-game build template and verified against the official Guild Wars 2 API and /v2/legends; item, rune, sigil and relic identities read from /v2/items. Build based on GuildJen’s Power Vindicator open world build, last updated there 30 July 2026; GuildJen publishes no patch stamp. Snow Crows, MetaBattle and Hardstuck all carry a power Vindicator as well, with different gear and for different content — the builds should not be mixed.
